About
Open For Business is a directory website for local New Zealand businesses operating under Alert Level 3 of the April 2020 NZ lockdown. This was a non-profit project developed over 4 weeks, and was live from the 26th April 2020 to 31st May 2020 with 96 businesses listed.
Open For Business was initiated at the announcement of Alert Level 3 and the related restrictions for business operation. A need for up to date information on business hours and order processes became apparent, and the present means (Zomato, Google, Yellow Pages) were not meeting these needs.
The site provided a resource for consumers to view current and up to date hours local businesses were operating under, as well as which precautions and alternate modes of service were being provided.
Key goals: Accessible and easy to use, simple to navigate and understand, fast development and setup
A website was chosen due to the versatility and accessibility across devices, simple access, familiar navigation for casual internet users, as well as the speed with which it could be developed and available to the public.
Local businesses were approached through media, email and social media channels. A link to the site and a short form for businesses was shared across across these channels to build the directory.
